Excellence For All Objectives: Progress to Date

August, 2008

On May 12, 2006 Pittsburgh Public Schools Superintendent Mark Roosevelt presented “Excellence for All: A Four-Year Comprehensive Framework for Improvement.”* Under the heading “How We Will Hold Ourselves Accountable,” the plan contains certain objectives for the four-year period ending with the 2008- 2009 school year. The plan stated that “we expect to see significant progress towards these objectives by the end of the 2007-2008 school year.”

The 2007-2008 school year has now ended and data on many of these objectives is available in the recently released report, “District Trends in Reading and Mathematics Achievement: Grades 3-8 and 11.” ** In a number of instances, “Excellence” and “District Trends” list different scores for the 2004-05 PSSA. In these instances the “Excellence” figure is followed in brackets by the “District Trends” figure.

Results in green indicate significant progress toward the objective; results in red indicate minimal progress toward the objective; and results in orange are indeterminate. For eight of the nineteen objectives, significant progress has been made or the objective has been met. For eight of the nineteen objectives, minimal or no progress has been made. For three objectives, the data is unclear due to discrepancies between the "Excellence" and the "District Trends" figures.
